2017 SOAR Program Information
The Student Outdoor Adventure Retreat (SOAR) is a three-day trip that takes place immediately before new student orientation. All trips leave from Emory on Tuesday, August 15 and return to back to Emory on Friday, August 18, the day before new student orientation. This is the largest pre-orientation program at Emory! SOAR gives incoming students the opportunity meet other incoming freshmen and learn about Emory University from upperclassmen. Nothing brings people together like sleeping under the stars, rafting down a river, crawling through a cave, or backpacking through the Appalachian mountains. Begin your college career with an unforgettable adventure, and make memories that will last a lifetime!
The cost of the trip includes all transportation to and from the trip venue, meals while on the trip, activity fees, and a t-shirt. In addition, this cost will include a year-long membership to Outdoor Emory. This membership allows you to go on more Outdoor Emory trips throughout the school year and access all other club activities.
SOAR trips are offered to incoming freshmen and transfer students. Each student is able to select a trip based on their outdoor interests. Every year we offer a wide range of trips, from sea kayaking to mountain backpacking. All trips are designed for those with years of experience AND those with none at all. If caving seems out of your league—it won't be by the end of the trip! If you've never been backpacking before—have no fear. Many Emory students have been introduced to their favorite pastimes through Outdoor Emory trips. Click on the link above to see what trips we are running this year.
